Hello. My name is cat lawless and it is my joy to write songs

Find me on

my story

Ever since I was a kid

Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to write, record and release my own album. I find endless joy in song-writing on my guitar & keyboards (pretty basic skills!) – it’s just so fun to noodle & twiddle about to make songs appear (and where do they come from?!).

It was a massive treat to work on my songs with my amazing producer (it took over 10 years to bring it to this point – being a Mamma I just had to fit in studio time/Mastering/Artwork/CD Production etc whenever it was possible!) and knock them into shape with his production mastery and musicianship. With the help of super-talented musicians for added magic, my first studio album, ‘What Mamma Did Next’ is due to be launched in Feb. 2025. And I am so excited – and relieved, to finally be the ‘me’ I have always wanted to be – writing, recording and releasing my own music.

First single ‘Rocky Mountain High’ was released 08/11/2024

influences + Inspiration

Here are some amazing artists & songs that have floated my boat along the way, not an exhaustive, comprehensive list, just wanted to share who I love. When I asked myself, ‘What is it about other artists’ albums that I love?’, a common theme was that I completely adore singing along to all my favourite albums and really hope that when my album is finished, people will want to do the same to mine!

Working on my album has been the most exhilarating, exhausting, frustrating, heart-bursting, mind-blowing, irritating and freeing thing I have ever done! Even after the chaos of having children, I’ve never stopped creating/writing songs and, now my boys are older, and don’t need me quite so much, it feels less decadent to make time for my music – I’m kind of desperate to get cracking with it all – Debut album is all ready to go, and I’m getting songs into shape to start the next one.

I really want to show other women, especially mothers, not to give up EVER and prove that a 55 year old Mamma can write good songs that audiences will find inspiring and hopeful, relatable and joyful. Also, I would like my two boys to see that it is worth finishing creative things – the J O Y is in the slog of it all and having something you have created at the end of all the struggle!
